(actually as i post this, i do have a few drawings that are masterpieces to me that are being preserved on napkins in a journal somewhere)

Glimpse into the studio

This is where i am these days (in the studio aka my bedroom); listening to new sounds, exploring new sights, looking inside, trying to get outside, the days grow shorter, the nights grow long, the kettle is on, the wine is open, the rain is pourin', the candles are lit, the bath is drawn, the boy is sleeping, the music is playing, the paint is dripping . . .

TEXTURE

This was my favourite subway station in New York.

So many different textures here.

I wanted to cut out pieces of the wall and frame them.

Plaster, concrete, tiles, signs, dirt, paint, chipping paint, grey, blue, white?, black, yellow, orange.

You should have seen me trying to sneak pictures and not look like a tourist.

What camera? Didn't get many pictures. I know - silly!

So thanks to my friend Andrew for taking care of that for me!

This seems to be the piece that is being talked about the most.

I actually find it quite obvious but it seems to be catching people off guard.

I have been having fun sitting in the cafe quietly drinking my tea in the corner.

Anyhow, the work will be up until December so if you haven't been by for that Re-Entry brownie yet, you still have a chance to eat your brownie next to my paintings.

THE BEST OF MOMA

Here are my picks for the best pieces at the MOMA.

I love finding paintings by artists that i am familiar with, but that surprise me, that are not typical of their style.

The Rothko paintings are still by far my favourites though.

My breathe changes when i stand in front of them, shaking my head in awe.

FROM THE F TRAIN BACK TO THE RAIN

Just got back from an amazing week! Nyc is always good to me. My only problem with going there is that i don't ever want to leave. Driving back from the airport last night noticing how green vancouver is, that's what we get from all that rain; cleanliness and green grass. This is lovely in the summer, but i am not inspired to paint green grass. I am inspired by the stone, the tiles, the brick, the dark streets, the glowing lights, the trains and the sounds of the subway, the chipping paint, the different heights of the buildings, the shadows, the signs, the bridges . . .

THE DRIFT artist walking tour 2008

THE DRIFT starts this weekend! Matching artists with locations on Main Street for the annual art tour. Re-entry has been selected as my host and I couldn't be more pleased. The folks at Re-entry are so lovely, not to mention you can't leave without trying one of their fresh baked treats!

So grab yourself a homemade brownie and sit down for awhile to view some of my new work.

NEW WORK

I apologize for the poor quality photo,

DRIFT AND FLY

It has been a busy time at my house.
Paint has been flying. Estevan and I have been painting tandem in the living room, quite a lovely moment until he painted the couch. I love that he loves to paint of course, he is even quite good at critiquing.
Preparing for the DRIFT this weekend (detailed details to come)
Then I am off to NYC for a little business and some inspiration.

while perusing someone else's blogspot, i then clicked on one of their favourite sites and i came across this piece.

and i thought my arm was sore from painting!

If i wasn't renting my house i would have started writing in the corner already.

then just underneath this post was a post about an artist who's name i had been trying to remember all year . . . giving people clues about him and searching the dark parts of my brain for his name.

Then today TA DA there he was . . . Jose Gonzalez. I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT WHEN THAT HAPPENS!!!

Following your own path

It's late and too dark to paint. Of course i always want to paint when it is dark out. Arrgghh. This picture is the current inspiration along with "following your own path"

Even though my new apartment has lights in the hallway that mimic daylight, the light is still strange.

I've been painting up a storm for the DRIFT next weekend and very happy to be doing so, hopefully my right arm can make it.

I will post some new pics when they are ready.

An evening of vibrations

There certainly was something special in the air.

Sweet. Raw. Happenstance.

Vibrating. Penetrating. Enlightening. Intriguing.

Tones of frosted umber, charcoal with a touch of red, earthened cobalt, organic oatmeal, and a touch of skin (tone).

I thank you for a truly moving and inspirational evening . . . until next time.

Dangerous love

the view from Doe Bay can clear your mind in one glance

I didn't want that Danger sign to be there when I took this picture,

but now I see that it is perfect!

Can you see the rainbow?

The weight of a feather. . .

. . . cannot tip a decision. We knew all along what was right for us to do. We just didn't listen!

Living on the finges of activity is a choice we can make. Always holding back, rather than becoming fully intimate with another is a choice we can make. It seems that there is a direct connection between creative thought and involvement in life. . .

The blanket is heavy, but my feet are light. As I float in a new direction.

As a friend said, "play the flute while you float"

The white circle is the full moon looking small even though it was gigantic!
